2020 is set to be an amazing year for gaming. New consoles details are being dropped, the Stadia is still being panned, and I think we’re all ready for the new decade to bring some major advancements in graphics, gameplay, and style.
With some tantalizing titles already lined up for release in the first quarter, we’re getting our hype hats on. Since there are so many incredible games to check out, we created a quick list to let you know what titles are set to release within the next 4 months. These games are quite varied, and the best part is that you will also find some heavily-advertised releases too.
So without further adieu, here are the 15 game releases we’re most hyped about for the first quarter of 2020!
15. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will release in January and will offer an Action-RPG experience set in the cult Japanese animated series world of Dragon Ball Z. The game is set to come with a huge array of features, including a leveling system for characters, an immersive world and lots of exploration, fulfilling tasks and a dedicated arcade combat system.
14. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a first-person action game based on the comic book series. Set in New Orleans, overrun with zombies, the player needs to do everything they can in order to stay alive. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a VR-ready experience and the first full zombie game in VR in the Walking Dead franchise.
13. Commandos 2: HD Remaster
Commandos 2: HD Remaster and the Praetorians: HD Remaster are both launching in January. These classic RTT and RTS games are coming back with improved graphics and some tinkering in regards to difficulty. If you were a fan of the old games or you want to play them on modern systems and with improved graphics, these remasters are well worth it.
12. Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem
Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem has been in early access for years now, and has seen quite a bit of improvement. This is a hack and slash game where you need to use all the tools at your disposal to survive in a dark and barren world. The player is born with powers that they don’t know how to control, and will finally learn to master them through the games progression while uncovering dark secrets.
11. ARK: Genesis
ARK: Genesis is the fourth expansion to the ARK franchise and promises to offer new biomes such as Volcanoes, Bogs, and even a low gravity Lunar biome! They are also bringing in a litany of new life forms, and variants on old favorites. If you always wanted more content for ARK, then this new expansion is definitely something to look forward to.
10. Zombie Army 4: Dead War
In Zombie Army 4: Dead War, the player once again faces a horde of living corpses in WWII. You need to do everything at your disposal in order to stay alive, all while playing cooperatively with other players from all over the world. This title promises a great deal of immersion with exciting gameplay mechanics and numerous interesting features.
9. Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Video Game 3
For fans of moto games, energy drinks, and everything in between, Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Video Game 3 is set to arrive in February and it’s shaping up to be a fun (if cheekily corporate) title with some interesting mechanics and the added twist of playable versions of real tracks, players, vehicles and even events.
8. Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is one of the most popular turn-based strategy game franchises and this one will bring new RPG elements to the series while also exploring one of the oldest strategic cycles in history. It retains the turn based gameplay while also promising a deeper focus on statistics and character individuality.
7. Builders of Egypt
Builders of Egypt is interesting because it tries to recreate the old (and beloved) Pharaoh game while also offering some new city builder ideas and mechanics. This all adds up to delivering something different, immersive but also exciting and extremely enjoyable. If you are passionate about a city builder covering the ancient Egypt times, this is the right one for you.
6. Overpass
In Overpass you will need to take your quad bike or the off-road car in order to traverse extremely challenging routes. You need to use all your skills in order to reach the finish line. You must plan the route, watch the damage and also plan everything accordingly. This promises to be an exciting and adrenaline-fueled release.
5. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
The previous Ori game was a masterpiece, which sets quite the expectation for the sequel. This game offers some creative gameplay ideas while also retaining most of the old stuff. With new locations, extraordinary visuals, and a solid history, we can’t wait to get our hands on Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
4. NiOh 2
NiOh was an acclaimed souls-like game, and NiOh 2 is set to improve on that by bringing us face to face with enemies from Japanese mythology. You will need to use all your skills in order to try and eliminate enemies, while also enjoying a fantasy themed story with great twists and turns.
3. Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal, the heavily-anticipated next chapter in the Doom franchise, promises to be extremely immersive and to come equipped with great gameplay mechanics. It also features more time on Mars, more demons and even more weapons than before. Our biggest hype? A new multiplayer mode, which is very new for the franchise and notoriously difficult to implement in the story-driven first person shooter genre (Oh Bioshock 2…) We couldn’t be more excited to see how this plays out!
2. Dungeon Defenders: Awakened
Dungeon Defenders: Awakened offers us a return to the amazing Dungeon Defenders gameplay without feeling overly-cluttered. The game has the same tower defense twist, but with special new features and with lots of specialties this time around. 4-player coop? Yes please!
1. Half-Life: Alyx
While we don’t know a lot about the new Half-Life game, what we do know is that it was created with VR in mind and it will take full advantage of the VR headsets available on the market. It’s the first Half-Life game in more than a decade and a half, so naturally people are very excited (and incredibly unified in their opinions, obviously).
One thing is certain, Q1 2020 is amazing for games and it’s full of exciting titles, no matter the type of games you like to play. We encourage you to check out these great titles as soon as they launch, as they are very promising!
